Spontaneous Districting

or... what IS the handle district?
Last night, we went out to dinner at Paesano's, a nice urban Italian restaurant in Midtown Sacramento. It's part of a small cluster of food estblishments at 18th and Capitol. As we were walking into Java City to get a latte before dinner, I noticed a small emblem at the bottom of the door that said "Handle District." Having never heard of such a place, I assumed that it had something to do with the manufacturer of the door, and decided that I was rather disappointed with the door handle, given that such a big deal was being made about handles. I was in for a shock...
Continuing on to Paesano's, we again saw the mysterious "Handle District" sticker on the bottom of a door. On further investigation, we discovered a sign for a Second Saturday event, claiming that the event would be occuring in Sacramento's "Handle District" at 18th and Capitol. I became very suspicious at this point --- I'm pretty hip to my hoods, and I've NEVER heard of this place. A quick Googling comforted me, as I found that the only place referring to said district was the website advertising this upcoming music festival.
At this point, the next words out of Rob's mouth were: "Is handledistrict.com registered?" I quickly checked on my Treo, and discovered that it was not. So, over the course of dinner, Rob managed to register the domain via his cellphone (it was slow and torturous, but he did it. He's now created an informational page about the so-called Handle District. Go Rob. Now we're part of this guerilla neighborhood movement, whether they like it or not! Muahahaha!
Of course, we'll always sell the domain back to them... for a price.
