TimeToRefactor

It's time to update my web page format. I liked the PmWiki approach, because it gave me tons of flexibility for developing components for sharing information. However, the rapid development of web portals devoted to managing and presenting certain types of information from users has led me to the conclusion that my web page should simply become a mash-up of existing services.
This approach still leaves me feeling a little bit uneasy. In particular, I'm nervous about having my information spread out among numerous other services that may or may not persist in the long term. However, by choosing services correctly, I can make sure that I have everything backed up, so that if something goes belly-up, I can still re-create or transcode data myself.
I still need to find a few services that suit my needs (for example, a blogging service that allows me to present formatted and easy-to-read code would be really helpful). And of course, I'll find new services that offer data streams that I wouldn't have considered for the old version of my web page, like the spastic musings that come from Twittering.
I'm well aware that I might fall into the demographic of "needlessly prolific content creators," but like many people with web sites, this is really more for me than for other people.
